Platinum Studio Manager Jamell Isidor talks Internships

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the School of Audio Engineering’s networking event and I was pleased to, not only meet a few talented aspiring engineers, but to also get their perspective on their internships and what they expect from us, the recording studios. I was dismayed to discover that Platinum may be the only studio that encourages interns to handle gear as early as the first day of their internship and participate in sessions within their first two weeks. However, I was happy that we are fortunate enough to offer such an opportunity to our interns!

Many students were surprised when I told them this.

At Platinum Sound, we feel that at any moment an extra pair of hands will be needed to set up a session for a client, which is why we ensure from day one that our interns are well-prepared to handle any situation that comes their way. Furthermore, we feel pride when our interns move on to work as independent engineers and are complimented on their skills – which stem from the knowledge that they gained through our internship program.

By offering a more hands-on internship experience, aspiring engineers in our program have been able to receive second assistant, and in some cases assistant engineer credits on albums such as Lupe Fiasco’s Grammy nominated “L.A.S.E.R.S.”, Musiq Soulchild’s “Musiqinthemagic” and most recently, Mary J. Blige’s highly anticipated release, “My Life II: The Journey Continues, Act 1″.

Busta Rhymes records vocals on Justin Bieber’s “Under the Mistletoe”

Not too long ago, Busta Rhymes spent time in Platinum’s Studio J so he could contribute his impossibly fast lyrical genius to “Drummer Boy” on Justin Bieber’s Christmas album “Under the Mistletoe”. The vocal was recorded by one of our engineers, Kevin Wilson. As of Dec. 21st, the album had sold an impressive 995,000 copies, which means it’s gotta be platinum by now.

Anthony Hamilton Working on “Back to Love” at Platinum Sound

Platinum Sound on The Rachael Ray Show

At 10 AM this morning, The Rachael Ray Show featured a segment surprising contest winners by making one of their dreams come true. One such winner, an aspiring singer-songwriter by the name of Michael Jones, was given the opportunity to come to New York and record a track at Platinum with producer and studio owner Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis.

Of course our goal was to ensure that Michael received the full session experience that our top clients have received in the past and from the looks of it, both he & Jerry had a blast working together. During the feature, Michael expressed his excitement for being able to work in both of our rooms, Studio J and K: “This was awesome, I mean, being in this studio…it feels like a dream!”

Platinum Sound upgrades to Protools 9!

In case you weren’t impressed by our brand new ear-shattering Augspurgers in Studio K, Platinum Sound Recording Studios is now running on the latest Protools 9 Accel 6 System LOADED with the latest licensed plug-ins such as Soundtoys, MCDSP Bundle, Waves Bundle, Eventide Anthology and Oxford Bundle.

In addition to upgrading our Protools System, we have also updated our Mac operating systems with 32 GB of RAM.

Christmas came early for Platinum this year and our engineers are enjoying the monster of all audio gifts! Platinum Sound Recording Studios has recently upgraded our Studio K with custom Augspurger monitors that are making some truly great first impressions. The speakers, once housed in Sony Studios Studio A, put Platinum in the running for the LOUDEST recording studio on the East Coast.

Aside from being mentioned on Twitter by names such as Tony Tagoe of The Outfit Agency, Sonic Scoop, and recording artist Estelle, the speakers were also featured in an article on the home page of Sonicscoop.com. Click here to check out the article!
